An Arizona woman was so crushed when her boyfriend told her that he was infected with HIV that she tried to crush him – with her car. Misty Lee Wilke, 44, was caught on a security camera as she plowed into her bicycle-riding boyfriend, launching him over the hood of the vehicle and onto the pavement.
According to a probable cause statement released by police, victim Joseph Valva was spotted by witnesses as he frantically tried to avoid Wilke, who was apparently trying to run him down. In the above clip, Valva can be seen riding away from Wilke before doubling back. That's when she sees the opportunity and careens into the unfortunate man.
Thankfully, Valva suffered relatively minor injuries and is expected to make a full recovery. Meanwhile, Wilke fled the scene and abandoned her car at a gas station before receiving a ride home from a friend, where she phoned police to give her side of the story.
Wilke claimed that she and Valva had recently begun having sex, but Valva did not initially disclose his HIV-positive status. She further alleged that “he was laughing at her,” so she shoved him away, prompting him to pull out a pocket knife. The police report indicates that Wilke did, in fact, sustain a small cut on her arm.
However, Wilke denies that she intended to hit Valva, claiming that she simply crossed the street without looking and only realized she had collided with someone after hearing the thud.
Wilke – who was arrested shortly after the incident took place – was charged with attempted second degree murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and leaving the scene.
