Michael Brune, chief executive of environmental advocacy group the Sierra Club, told Tucker Carlson of Fox News that his organization supports abortion because it’s good for the environment.
During an appearance on an episode of “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” Brune was asked why the Sierra Club takes position on social issues like immigration and abortion when it is ostensibly a group dedicated to stopping global warming.
He responded by claiming that widespread abortion “helps to address the number of people we have on this planet.”
The answer visibly shocks Carlson, who fires back by wondering why the Sierra Club supports immigration if it is responsible for rapidly expanding the population of the United States.
Brune offers up a textbook answer about how there are undocumented immigrants “on my son’s little league team” and claims that they should not be deported because “we don’t think that’s right,” but refuses to connect the topic of immigration to environmental issues like he just did with abortion.
“That’s fine, then go work for the DNC. But you’re not running an environmental group,” Carlson eventually said. “You’re running a left-wing advocacy organization where every trendy issue gets thrown in the same basket and it dilutes your mission.”
The Sierra Club issued three separate statements last month condemning President Donald Trump’s immigration ban, the executive order enabling construction of the U.S.-Mexico border wall, and the House’s vote in favor of a bill that ensured taxpayer funds never went toward abortions.
