For the people saying he could have turned off the key, some of these newer cars with push button start, like the Sonata, won't let you turn off the engine unless it's in Park. A stupid stupid stupid feature that I don't like for fear of this exact situation. Sure looks like this guy didn't hit the brakes though...

@Twizted_3kgt Not sure about the Sonata, but most cars with push button start have an emergency kill where you can hold the button for x amount of seconds and it will still kill the engine. Check your manual cause it might be something you want to use someday :P

@Twizted_3kgt That doesn't stop you from shifting the car into neutral, it amazes me the number of idiots that don't know to do this. Even with the accelerator floored, you can shift the car into neutral. The engine might blow, but most have a rev limiter to prevent that, but even if the engine blows you won't get in a accident and you won't die!

we had a guy come into our shop (hyundai dealer) because his hyundai gensis would suddenly go full throttle when driving about 60km/h. He crashed it 5 times:P The guys from the head office came to inspect it and ended up blaming it on the tires. They were bigger in the back and apparently that was causing it to accelerate but they never tried putting the same tires on another genisis to try and recreate it. i think they're just trying to hide bigger problems with the cars

All you had to do is push it into neutral. Moron. And I don't believe a word of these "sudden acceleration" incidents. They're doing something. Cars are designed so that the engine cannot overpower the brakes and there's nothing stopping you from throwing it into neutral.
