Skydive from 102,800 feet

Posted by Stirgy on Oct. 29, 2006

On August 16, 1960 - Joseph Kittinger jumped from a balloon at 102,800 feet. He was in freefall for 4 minutes and reached a maximum speed of 614 mph before opening his parachute at 18,000 feet. Today - this still remains the highest jump on record and he was the first person to exceed the speed of sound (and he did it without rockets!)
