NBL player Mirko Djeric, shot in the leg A RISING Sydney basketball star is in serious doubt for the world championships after being shot in the leg by party gate-crashers. NBL player Mirko Djeric was shot in the thigh after a street fight erupted outside a house on Grainger Avenue in Mount Pritchard shortly after midnight on Saturday. The 18-year-old, who was this year selected to play for the Illawarra Hawks in the NBL, was preparing to play in the under-19s world championships to be held in the Czech Republic later this month. Investigating police are hunting seven men of Asian, Pacific Island and Middle Eastern appearance. A police spokesperson said a party was underway at the house at the time of the shooting. Neighbours told Channel 7 they heard gunfire but originally thought it was a firecracker. They soon realised a fight had broken out and the NBL player had been shot.
