Dramatic bodycam footage out of New York City shows the moment when one NYPD officer wound up with a serious case of road rash after he tried to pull over a criminal with active warrants and instead found himself clinging onto his fleeing vehicle.
Thomas LaForce, a notorious crook whose rap sheet includes aggravated robbery and theft, can be seen nervously fidgeting as the cop asks him whether he was involved a recent Sam’s Club heist.
When the cop asks him to get out of his minivan, LaForce momentarily appears to be complying. Instead, he slams on the accelerator, forcing the cop to reflexively cling onto the SUV to avoid getting run over. Dashcam footage shows the officer being dragged about 25 yards before falling off.
“Alright, that car just took off and he drug me from the vehicle,” the cop says as he checks his arm for any injuries.
Later footage shows the minivan after it had flipped over. Police eventually manage to break the windshield and pull LaForce out of the car.
LaForce was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and faces a slew of charges in relation to the incident. Two officers, including the one who was dragged, were also treated and released after sustaining injuries in the scuffle.
