Universal has released the new trailer for “The Mummy,” a reboot of the horror-adventure franchise that we last saw in theaters back in 2008. Director Alex Kurtzman appears to be taking things in a much darker and action-packed direction if this sneak peek is any indication.
Tom Cruise stars as Nick Morton, who is evidently the world’s worst archeologist. When he happens upon an ancient Egyptian tomb, he proceeds to blow things up until he accidentally resurrects an ancient evil princess named Ahmanet (Sofia Boutella) from her prison-crypt.
We learn that Ahmanet was your average royal until she coldheartedly murdered her father in order to gain power. She was punished, in true ancient Egyptian fashion, by getting mummified and entombed alive.
Ahmanet remained dormant for thousands of years until Morton came in guns blazing, and now the sexy supervillain has awakened with a thirst to take over the world. It’s up to Morton, as well as his love interest Jenny Halsey (Annabelle Wallis) and partner Sergeant Vail (Jake Johnson) to save humanity from Ahmanet’s destructive rampage.
“The Mummy” is coming to theaters on June 9.
