Former Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s attempt to make a humorous quip to Sen. Al Franken (D-MN) might just be one of the most unintentionally hilarious things to ever happen during a Cabinet confirmation hearing.
Perry, who is in the running to become President-elect Donald Trump’s Secretary of Energy, had just sat down to receive questions from a group of lawmakers when Franken kicked things off with a softball question.
“Thank you so much for coming into my office. Did you enjoy meeting me?” he asked innocently enough.
Perry replied: “I hope you’re as much fun on that dais as you were on your couch.”
Franken visibly cringes when he realizes the hysterical double-entendre that Perry just served up while everyone else in the audiences begins to laugh. The humor is not lost on Perry, either.
“May – may I rephrase that, sir?” Perry jokingly asks, to which Franken emphatically replies, “Please, please! Oh my lord!”
Perry wraps up the unsettling exchange with an astute observation: “Well, I think we just found our ‘Saturday Night Live’ soundbite.”
