U.S. officials are trying not to laugh after North Korea’s primary propaganda outlet, Uriminzokkiri TV, released a poorly doctored video that shows North Korean forces blowing up an American aircraft carrier and bomber.
The ridiculous video, which is almost three minutes long, features several still shots of North Korea’s supposed military might paired with patriotic music. A female narrator promises that “a knife will be stabbed into the throat of the carrier, while the bomber will fall from the sky after getting hit by a hail of fire.”
It appears that this video is North Korea’s response to the joint U.S.-South Korean military exercises in the region, as the American supercarrier shown is the USS Carl Vinson, which is currently patrolling the South China Sea.
Pyongyang continues to defy multiple United Nations Security Council resolutions prohibiting it from developing weapons, with North Korea having conducted two nuclear test explosions and 24 ballistic missile tests in the last year alone.
U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson recently promised that the Trump administration would no longer adhere to a policy of “strategic patience” when it comes to North Korea and hinted that military action could be on the table if the totalitarian country does not come to heel.
