Insane Man Jumps Off 173-Foot Waterfall, Gets Knocked Out, Almost Dies

A California man’s stunning 173-foot jump off the top of Hawaii’s Wailua Falls might have cost him his life if it weren’t for the two tourists who pulled him from the water. The shocking video shows 21-year-old Shiloh Shahan falling for nearly five seconds before finally hitting the water.

In the clip, filmed on the island of Kauai, Shahan seems to psych himself up for the death-defying stunt before gingerly running to the edge of the waterfall and jumping off. He hits the water with a thud, vanishing into the plunge pool. When he surfaces, though, Shahan is unconscious.

“Hey! Wake up! No, no, no, no…” the cameraman yells. Two tourists begin pulling Shahan to the shore, where he realized that he had suffered a concussion and several torn muscles in his chest and back.

“I was still able to walk around. I was just stiff,” Shahan told The Tribune.

Shahan explained his motivation for the jump: “I decided, ‘I want to jump off of this,’” he said. “I was at a really pivotal point in my life. Everything was changing, and it felt like the right thing to do.”

Citing his previous cliff-jumping experience, Shahan blamed his technique for the injuries he sustained. “If I had jumped correctly, I probably would have been fine,” he said.

The daredevil also extended his gratitude to the tourists who rescued him from the water. “I really want to give credit to them for my safety,” Shahan said. “Without them, I probably wouldn’t have been able to survive.”
