Although we’ve seen actors interpret Tupac Shakur in a slew of movies and TV shows, most recently Straight Outta Compton, the time is now for the legendary rapper to get his own feature-length biopic.
On June 16, 2017 (what would have been Tupac’s 46th birthday), director Benny Boom will drop the All Eyez On Me, which stars Demetrius Shipp Jr. as Tupac himself. The Walking Dead stars Danai Gurira and Lauren Cohan will also star as Tupac’s Black Panther mother and his manager/mentor, respectively.
The latest trailer – the fourth released but the first deemed official — bills All Eyez On Me as the “untold story” about Tupac’s life. The sneak peek touches on some familiar themes: the rapper’s radically-charged upbringing, his complicated relationship with the law, and his intense feud with Biggie, for starters.
Boom is mostly known for his work on music videos for some of the biggest names in the hip hop game, so it will be interesting to see how his vision of Tupac translates to the silver screen.
