Police in Lubbock have released the shocking bodycam footage of an arrest that quickly turned violent when the suspect refused to follow the officer's orders.
Law enforcement was called to a Whataburger restaurant because of 30-year-old Eliseo Padilla, who was described in a written police report as “an aggressive suspect threatening customers and staff.”
In the clip, the officer can be seen approaching Padilla as he argues with a bystander. Padilla complains that the staff had promised to give him a refund because his son “couldn't enjoy his meal,” but had not yet done so.
The situation suddenly becomes hostile when the cop tries to check Padilla for weapons. “Officer Mitchell attempted to perform a pat down of the suspect for possible weapons and the suspect punched Officer Mitchell in the face with a closed fist,” the report states.
A frantic struggle breaks out as the officer attempts to subdue Padilla. The two fight for nearly a minute – Padilla's son crying hysterically in the background – before backup arrives and tasers Padilla.
“The suspect continued to strike the officers with a closed fist and he kicked a third officer multiple times. Officers used a Taser, but it had no effect on the suspect,” the report continues.
Padilla faces a charge of assault on a police officer and has been imprisoned in the Lubbock County Detention Center.
