An Air France passenger jet is feared to have crashed into the Atlantic after possibly suffering an electrical failure in a fierce storm. There were 228 people on board Flight 447, which had taken off from the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro and was due to land in Paris on Monday morning. A massive search operation is under way, but it is not clear exactly where or when the airliner went down.
