that was not an engine failure but a perfect example of what's known as "settling with power". experienced pilots get into it on occasion. Applying more power does not help because the aircraft is settling into its own downwash. happy for the crew; tragic for the aircraft.

They should have a holy s*** button!
PegasusRomeo - 2 years ago
Engine definitely did not fail - this aircraft has two engines, one is sufficient. Besides, he was able to pull up out of the water after touching initially.
Bigjon626 - 10 months ago
@ your hypothesis is pure speculation and incorrect.

Airborne80 - 2 years ago
Two things: One... they should have cut power once it hit the water the first time. Two... how that guy was not cut to shreds is a miracle!
@Airborne80 Seriously! i could have sworn the end of the video was going to say "tragically the crewman who fell off was slaughtered by the spinning rotors". how the hell

smokeaterusa - 2 years ago
Made in usa: That chopper is an hh-65 Dolphin, manufactured by Aerospatiale Helicopter Corporation in Grand Praire, Texas te engines are made by Textron Lycoming in Williamport, Pennsylvania. so must've been pilot error cause the coasties and Maryland State Police have been using them successfully for years
flashbang69 - 2 years ago
@smokeaterusa Actually...: It is no longer known as an hh-65...but an AS365 built by Eurocopter. The airframe is built in factories in France and Germany and it is assembled in Texas. It is not equipped with Lycoming engines, but Turbomecca Arriel twin engines.
WhoFlungPoo86 - 2 years ago
@smokeaterusa ahh!: where do you aquire such information? lol
WeeRuz - 2 years ago
@smokeaterusa Dumbass: Engine malfunctions happens and I heard about US coastguards and stuff crashed their choppers... I doubt very much it was the pilots 'error'.. And US are not so majorly great at engineering so they can make fault free choppers.

@smokeaterusa Lycomings?: I thought it was powered by Turbomecas...which are French. Well, the company was formed in France, they're probably built elsewhere
