Lightning rule of thumb...: Each second between seeing the flash and hearing the sound will result (usually) in about 1 mile of distance. I estimate this lighting strike to be roughly 12 miles away from the camera.

@izmophonik Speed of sound: The speed of sound @ sea level standard conditions (59 F) is 761 mph... a mile is 5280'... blah blah..blah.. on a warm day (humidity has little affect, only temperature), the speed of sound is slower-- roughly in the 1100' per second range. I counted 11 seconds for that large thunder x 1100' = 12100' away, / 5280 = just a hair over 2 1/4 miles (give or take a few hundred feet). Glad I took a science class!
It's real.: I live in Oklahoma and we get lighting storms VERY regularly nearly year round. The sound will always follow the visual sighting of the lighting strike if it's beyond 1 or 2 miles away. Remember...light travels faster than sound. I've counted 15 seconds between visual flash and then the thunderclap before.

Judging by the distance and the speed of sound and all: The alleged lightning took its time getting to you or that was dubbed into the clip along with the lightning.
@SantaClausNorthPole No, it's for real: I heard/saw a strike as this storm was coming in from the southeast (monsoon). Got my camera and stood there. The first strike shown was not dubbed. The replay/slowmo is of the same clip, but I didn't change the sound on the slow motion. We figured it hit about 2 miles away. I have some still pictures looking out the same direction from the storm that came back @ night that I can post up (took me 3 hours and about 400 pictures to get about 5-6 perfectly timed lightning strikes).

@SantaClausNorthPole I believe it: Speed of sound is dependent on temperature but if it was around 80 F then the lightning bolt would be about 2.8 miles away which is very believable
Rare alright. Yo ho ho and all that bullshit! And you were just in the right place at the right time to catch it?: Looks like coal for you this year. Nice try!
