The character that Isaiah Mustafa played in the Old Spice commercial gained popularity because it was loved by both ladies and men. His character was a woman’s man that was okay for a man to love as well.
Old Spice decided to feature Mustafa in “Old Spice Man” character responding to 100 Youtube, Twitter, Facebook and Reddit comments in a series of short videos. Here are some fun facts: The “Man You Could Smell Like” commercial was shot on an actual beach, in a mock-up of a three-walled bathroom, and the only special effects it took to make the commercial was turning the sea shell into diamonds. Once the commercials went viral, Mustafa honored a Twitter request from a fan, and proposed to his girlfriend for him. The popularity of the campaign resulted in many remakes from the public (such as some of the videos below) and even the children’s television show Sesame Street. Even Neil Patrick Harris and Will Ferrell have both appeared in Old Spice commercials.
