Before her role on Lost, Evangeline worked a variety of other jobs. She worked as a flight attendant, waitress, and completed oil changes on big rigs while doing commercials and modeling to earn money for University. One of the commercials she was in was for the singles phone chat line Live Links in 2003. She also worked as an extra on film sets, episodes of Tru Calling (2003), Dead Like Me (2003), Smallville (2001); and films including White Chicks (2004), Stealing Sinatra (2003), and Freddy vs. Jason (2003)

Her role of Kate Austen on Lost was her first speaking part on screen. It earned her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Lead Actress-Drama in 2006.

Evangeline married Canadian hockey player Murray Hone in 2003. They divorced a year later in 2004. She dated Lost costar Dominic Monaghan from 2006 – 2009.

Evangeline is starring with Hugh Jackman in the 2011 film Real Steel about a washed-up fighter (Jackman) who lost his chance at a title when 2000-pound, 8-foot-tall steel robots took over the ring.
