Epic Beard Man
A camera, an AC transit bus, booze, and a tense situation: these are the simple ingredients necessary to create an instant internet sensation named Epic Beard Man. On Feburary 16th, 2010, a video was uploaded to the internet with the intriguing, if not confusing, title, “AC TRANSIT BUS FIGHT I AM A MOTHERFUCKER”. It’s nothing too incendiary or out of the ordinary, at least compared to most nonsensical YouTube offerings. This is no ordinary video, though. It is the stuff of web legend.

More Info About Epic Beard Man
The two featured videos above depict an altercation that occurred between two (most certainly intoxicated) older men on a public bus in Oakland, CA. Michael, a 50-year old African American man, has taken issue with a remark that Thomas Bruso, a 67-year old white man wearing the assertive t-shirt that inspired the title of the video, made about a shoe shining proposition that Bruso (henceforth referred to as “Epic Beard Man” or “EBM”) supposedly made. Although the video footage begins somewhere in the middle of an increasingly hostile conversation between the two men, it seems clear that certain assumptions of racial prejudice rapidly escalated the situation. Alcohol and/or psychotropic drugs probably didn’t help things either.
Although violence is never ideal the epic beard man does provide several useful lessons for every day life:
- Don't fight a man on a bus.
- Unless he's a hipster, fear a bearded man.
- Seriously don't fight a man on a bus.
- Always be sure you have a friend to call the "ambalamps."
