Camel toe is a term used to describe the outline of a woman’s labia majora as it is seen through tight clothing. Camel toe most often occurs when a woman dons a swimsuit or a pair of tight-fitting spandex pants or shorts, which in turn conform to the shape of her labia majora and produce an outline that roughly resembles a camel’s forefoot.

Use of the term camel toe has grown significantly in the last several years, propelled into the mainstream by appearances in such popular television shows as “South Park” and “Saturday Night Live.” The term is most commonly used in a teasing way, directed at females whose clothing is so ridiculously tight that it accentuates portions of her anatomy she did not originally intend to put on display. When a person spots a camel toe, he or she will often let out a loud exclamation of surprise, then turn to his or her nearest acquaintance and point out the camel toe so that both parties may enjoy the humor associated with seeing such a thing. When a female celebrity is caught displaying camel toe, photos and/or video of the phenomenon tend circulate rapidly through the Internet, appearing primarily on pornographic websites and on message boards administered by lonely perverts. There now exists an extensive collection of camel toe documentation on the Internet, much of which appears in video form. Camel toe has also been the subject of a great deal of parody and satire, with enterprising comedians using the term in such a way as to evoke laughter from an audience. When a male experiences the equivalent of camel toe, it is referred to as “moose knuckles,” and is generally considered to be disgusting by any party unfortunate enough to catch a glimpse of its appearance.
