
Bullfighting
Bullfighting is a traditional event of Spain, Portugal, southern France and some Latin American countries. It is regarded by many as a fine art rather than a sport. Those that oppose it call it a blood sport for the bull is often killed in the ring, or slaughtered after being removed from the arena.

Traditionally, the bullfighter, or torero, will perform various moves of their own style at close range of the bull, which places the fighter at risk of being gored or trampled. The matador will hook the bull several times behind the shoulder. The fight usually ends with the killing of the bull by a single sword thrust called estocada.
Catalonia's Parliament banned bullfighting in July 2010 following a signature-collection campaign by animal rights activists. The final fight in Catalonia took place September 25, 2011 at Barcelona’s 20,000-seat Monumental ring. In 1991, the Canary Islands became the first Spanish community to ban bullfighting.
