Bed Intruder

Hide your Kids! Hide your wife! Obviously there is a bed intruder on the Internet. The incredible, original viral video, as well as the remix created by the Gregory Brothers (of "Auto-Tune the News" fame), have collectively taken the Internet by storm. Together they've launched Antoine Dodson out of obscurity and into the public spotlight.

More Info About the "Bed Intruder" Video

It all began in Huntsville, Alabama on July 29, 2010. After Dodson scared away a nighttime intruder who was trying to molest his sister, local news affiliate WAFF-48 covered the story and posted the above clip on their website. The news piece was posted on YouTube and other sites, where it quickly gained an exponentially huge number of views.

This initial success was multiplied by the geniuses behind "Auto-Tune the News". The Gregory Brothers had already enjoyed moderate internet success editing other news clips into pop songs. They reached an entirely different level of creative success once they found and remixed the Antoine Dodson clip. The remix featured above shows a pop sensibility not seen in most of the Gregory brothers other work. Their remix quickly gained massive online acclaim, almost totally eclipsing their earlier success due to its popularity on iTunes: the "Bed Intruder Remix" sold over 10,000 units in less than two days and premiered at the 89 spot on Billboard after selling 30,000 by August 18.

The Bed Intruder Remix was a phenomenon that turned Antoine Dodson into a minor celebrity. He earned enough money through sales of the song to move his family out of the housing projects and into their very own home. He made appearances on a number of television shows, including a memorable performance at the BET Music Awards 2010, and he even appeared in a Break Originals video. He continues to make sporadic appearances, including a court appearance for marijuana possession from an April 23, 2011, arrest.
