BASE Jumping

BASE jumping is an extreme sport that involves throwing oneself off the top of a tall structure with a parachute strapped to one’s back. BASE jumping is often done in an illegal capacity; as BASE jumpers seek new, more extreme structures to jump off of, they often turn to buildings or bridges within cities that prohibit such activities. This frequently leads to standoffs between police and BASE jumpers.

More Info On BASE Jumping

Unlike skydiving, BASE jumping is typically performed from a low altitude and involves much shorter periods of freefall. BASE jumpers release their parachutes almost immediately, depending on the height from which they are jumping. Some BASE jumpers will also don a wing suit before a jump, allowing them glide rather than freefall and to briefly experience the sensation of flight without a conventional aircraft.
