  Break comment people: suck. A lot of stuff is back to normal now, all the water is gone and homes are being rebuilt. As for the levee system, talk to the national government. It's expensive to build a levee system, so if you are willing to pay for it by all means let the Louisiana government know! It has always been known that New Orleans was subject to a hurricane like Katrina, which wasn't as bad as it could have been.   something like 70% of the netherlands is below sea level: and they are doing fine because they aren't so stupid like southern americans to not even properly protect themselves with dykes and levies. the dutch are also building floating houses now that can rise with flood levels. It's all about priorities. You can either save money and just hope you never get flooded or you can prepare for the worst. And Holland isn't even in a hurricane zone like Louisiana is.

    @Jabo007AND?: The Gulf gets multiple hurricanes every year. They built a lame line of defense for class 3 max hurricanes. That is wishful thinking and just asking for it. Crossing your fingers is what they did, my point was that the Dutch don't even have hurricanes to worry about and yet they went above and beyond their need because they learned from the past. What is more expensive for NO, fixing the mess now or having prepared properly in the first place? Lets hope they get their priorities straight now.
