Okay, lets put this straight. The above picture is that of a B-47 with Rocket Assest Take-Off boosters, this allows the bomb-laden craft to get off the ground quickly in order to strike the enemy (Soviet Union) back during the Cold War era. By the way, the B-47 is the predecer to the B-52. (Sorry about the spelling.)

There's nothing wrong with it, its called RATO/JATO rocket assisted take off/ jet assisted takeoff, old school technology.

Beautiful B-47 Stratojet with Rocket Assisted Take Off (RATO)… “Cold War quick response” = bad day on the receiving end
leroy26 - 2 years ago
@metalman011they are JATO rockets there MR smarty pants
Spaz69 - 2 years ago
@metalman011JATO and RATO are interchangeable and mean the same thing there leroy26, maybe you should do a little research before attempting to correct someone....

Not JATO... is airshow.
elementaldragon - 2 years ago
@FdogPfingerUuh.... i could see maybe the idea of them having white smoke at an airshow for smaller airplanes and jets.... but i think having a white smoke trail coming from the back of what looks like an old bomber..... would make for one boring trail.

Thats a B-47 Stratojet not a C-130
vanbt7 - 2 years ago
These takeoffs are simply bizarre to watch. The C-130 looks like a bus that suddenly just rockets upward into the sky.

@VinceForemanIts rockets boosting a jet through the air, if you ever took a science class. Its pretty common to see them fly in the air.

It's called JATO.
TimHughes - 2 years ago
@FMC17thats Jet Assisted Take Off... its break, you have to say it slowly for the people too
paulfries - 2 years ago
They are using rockets to speed up the plane and shorten the amount of runway needed for takeoff.
