DUH!: the endo f runways are built specialy to stop out of control planes, the cement has air pockets in them that cause the cement to break away slowing the plane

It's an MC-130H Combat Talon II: I don't know about Rylieh but I really did used to work on this acft. (KAFB, NM) I even know the tail number as I have the full set of pics. No, there was no ATC, which means there was no one in the local area (300nm) to talk to about the runway. I was told there were no NOTAMs about this but who knows. I don't think anyone died but I'm not sure. This C-130 is an 86 or 88 model but they have been landing in remote locations like this for over forty years. That's what they d
@RyphilAFdamn: double posts...
@RyphilAFcont'd: wasn't blamed for this outright.

Repair: Clearly the plane crossed a section of runway under repair.

That piece: was cut out. Oh ya the plane takes out a perfect square of pavement, idiots.

This is Q-West IRAQ; plane was departing around 01:00 hours. I was there that night.: This photo depicts the morning after the C-130 attempted to depart Q-West IRAQ. One soldier was evac'ed to Germany (he did not make it.) The runway was bombed during OIF I, this event happened in the begining of OIF III (two years later). I'll send some closer photos, maybe they will get posted. God Bless the Major that passed away in this mishap. Watch for the close-ups. Hope one or two get posted. The construction cr

not true: no it didnt. whoever put this in here is an idiot

....: they were doing construction near the end of the runway and the C-130 wasn't supposed to touchdown within the first couple thousand feet of the runway. The flight crew either forgot about this completly or just didn't check the NOTAM's before the flight and thus didn't know about it. Either way the incident was blamed on the air crew. If i remember right it ripped the landing gear clear off the airplane.

dip shits...: would the ignorant please stop making comments. There was no ATC...there were no lights on the runway... the aircraft landed prior to the construction... the construction may or may not have been NOTAM'd (notice to airman) either way the aircrew obviously didn't know about the gapping hole being repaired...

I was there: I'm in the air force and work for the squadron tha plane use to belong to. It happened at night and there was no ATC. It's at a forward location, if that's not obvious.
DrMembrane - 2 years ago
@Ryliehso, this kind of stuff happens a lot?: forward location or not someone should notify someone if a runway is in service or not, planes have radios right?
ThyCrimsonKing - 2 years ago
@Ryliehwhat happened at night?: the construction work? i believe you are a lying retard who is really in junior high school.

planes make: square holes?

Wow...: And the debris was magically vaporized!
GeezYouSuck - 2 years ago
Bloody hell - what moron came up with the title.: Look at that - the plane took a perfectly square piece out of the runway - and then it crash. You've even posted other pictures of this incident in earlier galleries. The C-130 hit the runway in the dark and THEN found out that it was under repair - and you can see the distance it took to stop.

The plane didn't take out the chunk: the hole in the runway...obviously being repaired/replaced took out the plane. i saw the full set of pics a while back. It was a US C-130 i believe
