  salinity has something to do but: when water cools it sinks and warm water rises to the surface so to freeze it you need it to be in a shallow place like a river where there's less water so it all gets to cool down enough to start forming ice, like on lakes. the ice on the boat forms out of mist because mist cools faster

  the boat ISN'T frozen: duh.....the water on it is. And boats usually move, so the freezing took place somewhere else and the ship has now traveled to an area above freezing but the ice on the boat didn't melt yet. Aninjabear - Water in motion does freeze, haven't you seen a frozen river?

    @ANinjaBearalso the water is salty: also when the water leaves the ocean it can cool down to the air temperature which may very well be much much cooler then the ocean temperature. but don't confuse break which such things.

    @ANinjaBeardont u know: the old esky trick?? putting a little bit of salt in with ur ice & drinks preserves the ice 4 a longer period of time thus keeping ur beer cold 4 longer

  Could: be that the air is below zero, and it cools down boat t zero or less, and water drops in air then freeze to boat, seawarter can have freezing point up to -5 degrees Celsius cause of salt thats why water isnt frozen, also, its movin so it suk*s to freeze then..
