creating hydrostatic equilibrium: When the jet breaks the sound barrier a sonic boom occurs exciting water vapor and warming them up to a gaseous state. Thus creating a "cloud" type phenomenon that lasts a mere spit second before condensing once again into the air around it.
Heehawthehonkus - 2 years ago
@AarekCarerrahWhat he said.: Seriously though. who ever posted the pic with the caption needs to have what is left of their brain removed.

@AarekCarerrahQFT: pretty much what i just said

Gotta love the comments: Plane, Jet...it's actually a Navy F-14 breaking the sound barrier. No photoshop there.
YouAreRetarded - 2 years ago
@MarineNFOfalse: it's an F/A-18F
ChronicB - 2 years ago
Well: Pretty sure this is your typical asshole with to much time and a free copy of photoshop. Honestly people grow up.
CountInFives - 2 years ago
anyone who does not know that this is: a plane breaking the sound barrier is a proffesional C*U*N*T
SAMcC - 2 years ago
Ill sum up what everyone is saying....: It's a pressure cloud that occurs when a jet breaks the sound barrier. end.
Orangefan77 - 2 years ago
Clearly this is not a cloud.: It is either a Scottish F18 or a prototype jet fighter from the 50's wearing a poodle skirt. uh-DUUUHHHH...

All wrong: This picture shows beyond all doubt that we have way to much time on our hands.
@karnelisabusing spare time: "The F-18 is actually in transonic flight, with normal shock waves emanating from behind the canopy and across the wings and fuselage. The condition will last for only an instant, and once supersonic flow exists completely around the aircraft, sharp-angled sonic cones replace the normal shock waves. The odds of getting a shot like this are staggering."
@karnelisabusing spare time some more: Cloud: 1. a. A visible body of very fine water droplets or ice particles suspended in the atmosphere at altitudes ranging up to several miles above sea level. b. A mass, as of dust, smoke, or steam, suspended in the atmosphere or in outer space. 2. A large moving body of things in the air or on the ground; a swarm: a cloud of locusts. 3. Something that darkens or fills with gloom. 4. A dark region or blemish, as on a polished stone. 5. Something that obscures. 6. Suspic
@karnelislast time: conclusion: When the water vapor, density and temperature are just right during flight a cloud will be visible. The correct description of the picture would be: GENERATING A CLOUD. Back to work now.

well...: i think everyone else pretty much summed it up for me...

technically...: it is a cloud...it is cause by the pressure build up of breaking through the sound barrier, but when water vapor condenses like this is it a cloud...
chris0721 - 2 years ago
@Rossco68first:: Shut up, your only making yourself look/sound stupid. Yes you are "technically" correct but does it look like he's "breaking" through the cloud?? And yes to help the confusion its an F-18 SH. look on youtube theres for sure a vid of this exact jet breaking the sound barrier. **Sigh**

DissidentDT - 2 years ago
Just to contradict you all: First of all, yes it's an F-18, the 2 seater version. Second, it's not necessarily breaking the sound barrier. Jets will produce this water vapor effect when approaching the sound barrier, (approx. mach .92) they DO NOT have to break it.
TheRevenge - 2 years ago
@DissidentDTyes, but: the barrier is around the tail of the jet, if it were moving any slower, it would be right in front of the nose, so it is just breaking the sound barrier, NOOB
Liam09 - 2 years ago
a cloud: wait, I want to be yet another douche that says the model/specs of the jet, plus, it wouldn't be complete if I didn't state what the last 130 people said.. its the sound barrier. Duuuhh (retort from kid that plays battle field)-> dude its a hornet breaking the sound barrier, not a cloud. Stop posting you idiots
Dunkmydonuts - 2 years ago
hell yeah: break through that cloud!

Hey guys,: That is an F-14, F-18's do not seat two. Oh and that is the sound barrier getting broken, not a cloud.
@wbrienbActually: That is an F-18. There are 2-seat variants. Google is your friend.
coma - 2 years ago
Cloud?: Dont think so ha ha ha, but breaking soundbarrier makes it look that way almost every time. Well so u have learned another thing today! isn´t cool how u learn new stuff every day? don´t mather how old ore young u r u will not ever be fully learned! remember that!

Breaking through a cloud: I'm not sure about clouds and stuff, but that sure is a COOL F4- Phantom!!
primer - 2 years ago
@seabeckPhantom??: That's a F/A-18
racefan - 2 years ago
@seabeckI agree with primer: It is most definitely an F-18. Among other reasons is the air intakes are way too far back to be an F-15. The leading edge of the wing also extends almost to the front on the cockpit, another thing you don't see on an F-15
@seabeckracefan and primer are right: this is an F/A-18. and before I'm told i am wrong, I should know because I worked on them when I was in the Marine Corps
