Locator Beacon: These small devices will send out your location to rescuers. Just make sure you get the waterproof kind.
Flare Gun: Pick up one of the Coast Guard approved flare guns to light up your location at night.
Colorful Balloons: Bring along a small bag of balloons with string. You can inflate the balloons and tie them together around you in the water. Makes you easier to spot from above.
Food Supply: Bring enough food packets to keep you going for a few days. American Red Cross sells some great ones that are small, but loaded with what your body needs. Not sure if they have any beer packets, though...
Mini Survival Tool Kit: There are many brads to choose from, just make sure to pick up one that focuses on surviving in the ocean.
Portable Phone Charger: With no ship and no power, your phone will need some juice. A powered up portable charger in a waterproof container is a must.
Waterproof Passport Holder: You are banking on the fact that you will be rescued, right? Make sure to keep your passport safe to make your travel life easier after you are picked up.
Medical Sea Pack: In case you get injured or must survive days away from a doctor, you'll want to pick up a mini medical kit. Again, one that is built for ocean survival.
This photo works on two levels. One, the headline itself and two, the fact that the newspaper is covering up the person reading it. Visual puns are great, right?
