88 meters... That's 176 meters he swam without fins... When I was really good I could swim around 100 meters horizontally. 176 meters vertically is just insane.

i didn't see her hold her nose to equalize...and what about goggles... the air would compress inside the goggles with no way to equalize as well..

    • boo805

      boo805 - a year ago

@JasonMahowaldyou can flex your jaw to equalize

    • baron666

@JasonMahowaldThey use pincers on the nose and some sponge like fillings for googles.

@JasonMahowaldYou don't need to hold your nose to equalize, especially if you're a pro. And that's a dude, dude, not a she.

This isn't the deepest anyone has swam. Just the deepest anyone has gone without fins the fin record is deeper, and also the category where they ride the sled down i forget what it's called but they go deeep in that category

I guess the other question I have is how is it possible for him to go down on a single breath if, well, doesn't the volume of air in his lungs actually shrink to like `1/20th the size? Perhaps someone with more experience can explain this part to me. I mean if he originally inflated his lungs a 1/20th of what he really did, there's no way he would have enough o2 for that long, well when he is down that deep, he pretty much should only HAVE 1/20th of what originally inhaled. thoughts?

@sanomaone day, I KNOW the break spam button will work!

    • gabesbad

      gabesbad - 2 years ago

@sanomaThe air in your lungs compresses and becomes a smaller volume, but it still has the same amount of Oxygen Molecules and your lungs still absorb the oxygen molecules from your lungs, so it really doesn't matter how much volume you have it's the amount of molecules. A person on top of mount everest would be a good example of someone who has good volume in there lungs, but not enough molecules of oxygen because the air is so thin.

@sanomayes you are correct thats what makes this dive so amazing, a near superhuman

    • Lain007

      Lain007 - 2 years ago

@sanomaBelieve it or not their organs go into a sleep mode, requiring less oxygen. Obviously if it goes on too long they will enter convulsions, but most experienced divers know when their organ timer is up, so to speak, heh.

I've free dove this hole about 6 years back. The hole in itself is amazing. Walking from the shores edge, it's only about 4 feet until you reach the shelf and it's a sheer drop from there on with no visible end. You can also dive from the cliffs surrounding the hole into the hole. You have about a 30-40 foot jump. Finding the hole is (or was) a journey itself. No one on the island seemed to know where it was. It ended up being down a long pebbled road and a few dirt roads from there. No signs at all. W

he is constantly equilizing his ears during decent, if he would be unable to equalize his ears he would face extreme pain and ruptured eardrums, i have been a diver for approximatley 30 years and can tell you what he accomplished is near superhuman

    • RavenX9

      RavenX9 - 2 years ago

@cravinmooreheadHe is overheating hes lungs to ease the pressure in hes evalitalizing-tig, this is the small organ also known as solaris. This makes the dive perticulary easy, but still a little hard. But this is a tecnique that is nearly impossible to lern without having knowlage of the egyptian sience of epalogican hyrdes. Its common to find this knowlage written on the walls of the pyramides of egypt. Some say they got it from ailiens, some say that it was ailiens who wrote it. And some think its and urban legend. So

    • sanoma

      sanoma - 2 years ago

@cravinmooreheadRight, that's what I thought....So there IS a way to equalize the pressure without using your hand to plug your nose? heh...that's kinda what I'm getting at...I never see him 'blow' while holding his nose. I know in a less dense medium like air you can do it by 'yawning' or using similar muscles, but this doesn't work for me under water.

    • Lerco

      Lerco - 2 years ago

@cravinmoorehead@saoma, some people can do it and some peolple cant. But you can train yourself to do it. just takes practise

I'm curious do know, how does one do this. I mean not the obvious NO BRAINER that it's a world record, but I mean how does someone dive so deep without having to pop their ears (equalize the pressure)? I mean in a 12 ft pool when I dive to the bottom my head is pounding from the pressure until I 'pop my ears'.

    • yousuckdick

      yousuckdick - 2 years ago

@sanomayou can do it by opening your jaw you do'nt have to hold your nose

And to clear some stuff up, right before he goes under, he hyperventilates NOT to increase the Oxygen in his body, hyperventilation simply decreases CO2 of the arterial blood. C02 levels in your blood is what triggers the urge to breath. For example, when you hold your breath and around 1 min (or less for some) it starts to almost HURT to hold it, thats NOT because of the lack of oxygen in your body, instead its the build up of CO2. When he hyperventilates he lowers his natural C02 level in his blood postpo

    • Strangejives

      Strangejives - 2 years ago

@sanomaactually he isn't hyperventilating....hes packing his lungs with air (god knows there will be a joke about "packing" here soon lol). He takes a breath and proceeds to force more air into his lungs.

    • sanoma

      sanoma - 2 years ago

@sanomaI know that divers are known to "pack" and I'm well aware of what the term means, however, I REALLY don't think that's what he is doing (the whole time anyway.) You can see his chest rise and fall indicating that he is hyperventilating. I think the last few he packs but he DEF hypervents too. But until I find more info on this dive I'll consider both scenarios.

    • gabesbad

      gabesbad - 2 years ago

@sanomaDeep divers do hyperventilate though before they pack their lungs.

ultra impressive, and he made it look easy!, what is his name?

    • sanoma

      sanoma - 2 years ago

@bradmcait's william trubridge and it is a world record. He also has videos that include diving throw the Arch in the Blue Hole in Dahab...A VERY dangerous stunt. Professional scuba divers die trying it and he does it just free diving with NO FINS!!! unbelievable...This guy is my hero!

    • sanoma

      sanoma - 2 years ago

@bradmcaBut this is a truly impressive video. I'd have to say one of the best videos on BREAK. And NO i'm not a diver or any kind of water sport fan, but to see someone do this is so impressive. Almost magical. You can see the look in his face as he descends that he's almost in a different dimension.

Master Shake: All right! That was incredi- You know you were in there for almost five minutes? You are gonna win, and you are gonna get in that book. Meatwad: Man, the pressure on my eyes was indescribable. Master Shake: Yeah, but that was easy. We just did a thaw. That was only on fish! Meatwad: I'm ready for poultry. Master Shake: No, you're not. But you will improve with practice so there's still hope. This time you're gonna be in there for awhile, so maybe you should get some reading material. Ooh. Here
