Two Guys Crash Plane Despite Alarm

Video Details

These guys listen to an alarm telling them to put their landing gear down and can't seem to remember to do it. They ruin their propeller, the bottom of their plane, and the chance anyone will ever fly with them.

Maybe the alarm should say "Gear down" over and over, instead of "beeeeeeeeeeeeep"....

This is why recreational aircraft should have fixed landing gear only!

Okay, someone (with more experience) correct me if I'm wrong, but wasnt that the overspeed warning? They did come in too high. They were still 800 or 1000 feet in the air, I can't imagine why the plane would think it needs its gear down since thats a typical cruising alt for a single-engine rec plane.

@Nick-Stone-150For small planes you can have a gear horn come on when the throttle is brought below a certain point (like idle) and the gear is NOT down. The plane doesn't have a radar altimeter, so it doesn't know its altitude above the ground and the human factors problem with that is that if you do a lot of ops at idle in flight, you get desensitized to the warning and just don't hear it anymore. One possibility, but it's hard to tell what really happened with just that video.

I love how they touch the prop and seem to say... "this is going to be expensive to fix," without even thinking about the belly.. nice checklist you failures..

Right, im no Howard Hughes but I have done a little bit of flying (10 lessons) It is uncomprahendable that you would "forget" to put the landing gear down and especially ignore the warning alarm. something else is going on here.

      bobco101 - 4 months ago

@beany_botIt happens. One thing to remember is the audio you hear if from the overhead speaker and not tied into the audio system - probably not as loud to them with headphones on as it was to the camera which is right next to it. If you do get your license, you'll see that "complex" aircraft (retractable gear) is a separate endorsement. This does happen often, but more than some might think.

@beany_botIt happens due to inexperience dealing with the old FOE (fixation, omission, error). When I was a student in the Mooney M-20J (around 1990) I remember flying down final too fast, the plane wouldn't slow down like it normally did, and my instructor just kept staring at me like I'm an idiot, but the throttle's at idle and we're too fast and what's that damn beeping in the background??? Finally, he pulls off my headset and says "What's that beeping?" and I reply, "I kno

I wouldn't give this old bastard control of the TV remote. Spend your retirement years like old people are supposed to: drinking and fishing, preferably at the same time.

Before you start posting videos with WRONG titles and descriptions....See the one green light that's lit on the left, and the two non lit ones on each side of it. That means their gear was supposed to be down with "three green" (google that) but they has a hydraulic fluid leak or malfunction and the left and right gear didn't go down, only the front. So they in fact knew the gear was up and made a emergency landing...that's why they weren't freaking out and jumping out of the plane

    • bobco101

      bobco101 - 4 months ago

@CashisClayThe gear lights on this plane are shaped like arrows that point down and are located on the pilot's lower panel next to the gear handle. The three green at the top are Navigational annunciators. You can google the plane type: Trinidad GT and see for yourself. As for it not being an emergency...look at the link www(dot)kathrynsreport(dot)com/2011/11/raw-video-airplane-crash-altiport-de(dot)html...it quote's the person filming it .

@bobco101@bobco101, CashisClay didn't say it wasn't an emergency, he said it WAS. Duh...

    • bobco101

      bobco101 - 4 months ago

@Ckiyeah...I'm saying it wasn't...duh. Look at the link, they admit they simply forgot to put the gear down. One thing to remember is the audio you hear is from the overhead speaker and not tied into the audio system - probably not as loud to them with headphones on as it was to the camera which is right next to it.
