the train: appeared to stop in 22 seconds after impact. If it was going 45-50 mph, even with it slowing before impact, then it could have stopped in less than half a mile. So it was probably pulling empty cars or it was a short train, right?

@peglegmerleAlready stopping: The train conductor probably saw the truck before the intersection and was already braking. Notice how he was laying on the horn. He would have been braking at the same time.

1 mile to stop a train..: Whoever said a few hundred feet should stay away from all RR crossings... It takes a loaded tractor trailer with hot brakes over 400ft to stop, and thats with rubber tires on asphalt. Try more like 5,000 feet. Plus that was a freight train..If fully loaded, you can add another 1/4 mile to that.

@NYRICH01bull: Union drivers are dangerous junkies. I had a union driver fall asleep at 2 in the afternoon and run over the rear end of my brand new TownCar squashing me between the truck and the guardrail. The Trooper said he didn't see it happen so it was nobody's fault.
