That was a truck without parking brakes on. Standards are generally left in neutral, brakes keep em from rolling away!

not a placard:: that is part of the company logo that was blurred out, placards are at the lower part of the trailer sides to allow access to them. the driver would need a ladder to change that if it were a placard.

how to park a running truck:: 1. PUT IN NEUTRAL 2. Set Parking brake(s) 3. Lock doors and snooze Being a truck driver, I am sure i am qualified to post this.

@chubyboyhm...: how about PUT IT IN GEAR... being a huge truck, I'm sure you'd want to do that to help keep the truck in place. Being a "truck driver" I'm sure you already knew that though...

    • ThePuh

      ThePuh - 3 years ago

@chubyboyhm... why would you want to sleep in the truck while it's running?: to waste the $4+ a gallon of gas? Turn the freakin thing off and how about PUT IT IN GEAR... being a huge truck, I'm sure you'd want to do that to help keep the truck in place. Being a "truck driver" I'm sure you already knew that though...

@chubyboyThePuh: Why not shut it off? Because the driver has to pay the service call if the truck cant be restarted not to mention the hassle of rebuilding air pressure, letting a truck idle during short stops is less costly that the damage caused to the starter, transbrake and clutch by restarting the engine. Why not leave it in gear(engine off)?Saftey, you never leave a truck in gear, it's just plain stupid and can cause some major damage to the driveline. Regaurdless of all that, it was the drivers fault,

@chubyboyhow about put it in GEAR. then parking brakes...

    • ater666angelus

      ater666angelus - a year ago

@chubyboyYou put it in NEUTRAL, if the key is on and it rolls while in gear the engine will start up (push start) and it will NOT stop when it hits something like this did. Why sleep with it on? You ever try to sleep in your car in 100 degree heat with the windows up? Dip shit, has to be on for AC and Heat!!! Yes he was retarded for not setting the parking brake though.

Clutch NOT operated by air.: The clutch is not operated by air it is a direct linkage, the brakes are operated by air, the parking is set by releasing the air from the brake chambers.

For all of you..: ..who doesn't know: You ALLWAYS leave semi's in neutral gear! This is because the clutch is operated by compressed air, which leaks out of the air bottles. If you leave it in gear for a few hours, and the compessed air leaks out, you won't be able to operate the clutch. And the gearbox in semi's aren't like the gear boxes in small cars, you can't bring it from gear to neutral without operating the clutch. Therefore, truck drivers never leave their trucks in gear! A smart thing is to ap

@orator0607yes: thats exactly what he was supposed to do

    • WalleTheMan

      WalleTheMan - 3 years ago

@orator0607...: RUK1DD1NG, you don't know what you're talking about! You never leave semis in gear, especially not over night. Why? Simple, the clutch is operated by compressed air, and when you leave the truck off for a few hours, the air leaks out of the air tanks, unabling you to bring it out of gear. Therefore, you allways leave semis in neutral. A smart thing to do though, is to apply the parking break, before stepping out.

Neutral? No Way.: They can get going pretty good down a hill but it would have to be a bigass hill. Them shits was in drive and he probably snorted his last line off a hooker's ass yesterday and didn't have anything to keep him up.
