somehow the last shot looks like a small scale explosion, the waters' mass too thick for the size of the ship.

...Not a Battleship, just a destroyer...
Humberman2 - 3 years ago
It's a destroyer. I'm literally watching the documentary "Sinking a Destroyer" on the history channel as I type this. It was a destroyer from the Australian navy being sunk by a Mark48 torpedo.
FrankLee772 - 4 years ago
I'm pretty sure the outward force of the explosion and outward displacement of water is what causes most of the explosion, filling of the created void is secondary and probably doesn't help the situation, but definitely doesn't "split the destroyer in half". If all we needed was a void, we'd just shoot black holes at ships instead of torpedos!
yankeedo, if you sank it, it had to be "my" battleship. Duh.

water rushing in: doesn't cause the ship to break. the ship collapses under its own weight because there is not water to hold it up where the torpedo detonated.
DrinkmoreJager - 2 years ago
Amazing: how all the torpedo/explosive experts come out of the woodwork to post their comments.
blueS2000 - 2 years ago
@DrinkmoreJager lol: hell yeah! I love how that happens...
stlouismatt - 2 years ago
i dont think: that it going off under the ship is going to blow that huge chunk of metal off and over the boat

some information for the CAPTION WRITER: Implosion: the pressure inside a container is very low compared to the pressure outside and that causes the container to collapse. Explosion is when the pressure inside is very high compared to the outside, so the container breaks and it's contents EXPAND.
Remo - 2 years ago
Torpedo: Shit that was a direct hit from one if not two torpedo's. Creating a void in the water won't blow the hell out of plate steele.
@Remo actually: that's how torpedoes work. the superstructure of the ship is not designed to withstand unequal support which is the result of the "void" described in the video description. trust me, i'm in the navy. it know this kind of shit.
