Fortunately, no one was killed in this wild crash involving a soda truck and at least five cars. In the biz, this is what's known as a Mountain Doozy.

It looks like the Pepsi guy panicked. He should've swerved INTO the car, not away from. It's like how people over react to deer in the road and swerve into oncoming traffic or a tree rather than hit the deer.

    • conan93

      conan93 - a year ago

@tim74The Pepsi driver didn't swerve. He was PUSHED over the median. Just because the truck is bigger than the car doesn't mean it can't be affected by a smaller object DRIVING into it.

    • ronster59

      ronster59 - a year ago

@tim74Yes, you're right, and conan93 is an idiot. That little car did NOT push that heavy ass truck, the driver of the truck tried to avoid the car. Stupid.

    • bendayho

      bendayho - a year ago

@tim74How can you assume that the car had less momentum? maybe the car was driven as such rate that its kenetic energy over powered the slow rig. Maybe the rig was made if big marshmellows...did you see how it deflated?

    • ManBearPig916

      ManBearPig916 - a year ago

@tim74Conan's right. That trailer could be full or empty, and yet that still won't negate the ability of that car to enact a torque upon the length of the cabin-trailer system. The car collides and you see the immediate effects of the torque. The contact ensues for like an entire second, and u see the "twisting" of the cabin to continue. Soon enough, the pivot commands the trailer to turn as well, and you know have a truck aimed straight for the median.

    • ManBearPig916

      ManBearPig916 - a year ago

@tim74I already commented to tim, and I need to address some of the other replies to him. There is like an entire second of "impulse" between the two vehicles. I see a full second of "mass*angular velocity (originally zero)* lever arm(distance of cabin to the center of gravity of the trailer-cabin system)" The ability to rotate a really heavy object with a given amount of energy can be much more feasible than simple linear momentum change when given certain rotational inertias. The shape of the trailer is long, a

    • ManBearPig916

      ManBearPig916 - a year ago

@tim74Third and final comment to deliver the truck driver from fault! Because the hinge translates only tensional and compressional information between the cabin and trailer and not-so-much any rotational information, the cabin is approximately FREE to rotate about the hinge with regard to the trailer. Because the tires aren't aligned with the arclength with respect to the hinge, it is not typical to imagine it this way. When she impacts the truck and relieves any traction on the truck for a split second, you see

    • ManBearPig916

      ManBearPig916 - a year ago

@tim74Oh, and one more thing. When the cabin hits the median, you AGAIN see a rotation of the cab with respect to the hinge! It holds true that lateral impulse affected the truck when girl slammed into him.

    • lowzone1

      lowzone1 - a year ago

@tim74actually the car hit the front axle. they are solid axles under leaf springs and can be pushed very easily. the car hit the front tire, TURNING the truck over and into the other side. take 3500lb car at 60+mph and hit something like a steering system, it WILL turn regardless on how heavy the truck weighs (80k lbs loaded). So YES the car can turn a rig like that
