No sympathy: Thieves deserve all they get - getting roughed up by security guards is an occupational hazard of the career thief. Those interfering members of the audience would be very quick to complain about thieves being treated with kid gloves if they were the victims of the crime. More STFU from them please.

the guard/company: is responsible for the safety of the guy. if he gets injured in any way he can sue.

Security guards do not have special laws regulating their behaviour...: At least not in Canada. The laws that apply are laws concerning trespassing, self-defence and citizens arrest. If he wasn't licensed to use those cuffs he is breaking the law. Citizens arrest can't be carried out with a police batton, tazer, pepper spray, or cuffs if you were not trained to use them, and licensed to do so. I've worked in security jobs for years. Just think of what would happen if a security guard cuffs a guy improperly

good for them: as security myself I have restrained countless shoplifters. Their mistake was acknowledging the crowd. Thankfully in my country we use tazers in this situation before initiating physical contact. A Tazer is the SAFEST way to do security takedowns no question. I hope the U.S. allows the use of tazers for security like we do. Then takedowns like this would be much easier.

power TRIPPING: this is why those security guards failed the police aptitude assessment...and now they are just bitter because they didn't make the cut, so this is the next best thing for them.

i am almost positive the law is this: if they catch someone committing a crime, they are allowed to hold the person there until the police get there.

@daneo333I AGREE: I think those are LCBO bags

    • slave00

      slave00 - 3 years ago

@daneo333True: In America Security has the same authority as a police officer while working on their post. Off post they are civilians even in uniform. It is up to the company hiring the security officers as to whether or not they want them to carry weapons or arrest people. But legally, yes they can. They can also use deadly force if necessary so keep that in mind next time you decide to f@#k around with a security guard.

      Jamez5000 - 3 years ago

@daneo333.: It is from an LCBO, there are bags and at 40 seconds a guy asks if they have security guards in the LCBO. They don't, at least the ones around where I live. They occassionally have police on Fridays standing outside watching for minors, but that's about it.

    • Forty9er223

      Forty9er223 - 3 years ago

@daneo333@ slave: security guards are not allowed to use deadly force as you so blatantly remarked unless there is physical danger to oneself or surrounding people.
