funny: All it takes is .002amps to kill you so the volts does not mater. The electrician that said 120 volts 15 amps wont kill you does not know what he is talking about they will give anyone a license

      @victor1975You are wrong: retard.

      Angry_Retard - 2 years ago

@victor1975While in theory you can die from .002 amps: It is not probable that you will die until you get up to around 1-4 amps. The electrician was probably referring to mA, milli amps.

electrician here: he definitly didnt take the 6k volt shock that sign advertises. Just to agree with previous posts, a typical house has a 120 volt supply, and usually a 200A main breaker. 120 volts can kill you, if you take every bit of that 200 amp main. But the reason a 120 plug wont kill u is because you are protected by a 15 or 20a breaker, which kills power if you draw more than 15-20 amps. If that fence didnt have any breaker or max current pretection, he would have been killed, or hurt badly. No sh

Pick up an EE book...: The voltage is just the potential difference, the question is whether or not the supply to that fence has the power to put out some amperage that would send you on a trip on the pain train... chances are this most likely does. 6,000 volts is nothing... static electricity reaches 6,000 volts potential between you and the ground, but theres no power behind it.

Anyho: Normally, as you only want to shock on contact, you drive 12 V on an electric fence for cows, 24 V for sheep...

6000 volt = possible: An eletric lighter produces 18,000 volt and it is harmless so 6000 volt = possible. it is all about the amps Electric Current (1 second contact) Physiological Effect 1 mA Threshold of feeling, tingling sensation. 10-20 mA "Can't let go!" current - onset of sustained muscular contraction. 100-300 mA Ventricular fibrillation, fatal if continued.

This is lame: 6000 volts is impossible, nothing has that much electricity in it. It's probably 10 volts or something, and it wouldn't spark like that. I went outside and grabbed my fence and nothing happened. Maybe the fence was hit by a lightning bolt? HAHA Yeah right! Obviously fake.

    • POE1917

      POE1917 - 2 years ago

@Dougieeeeeereply: Wrong.... Its not the voltage that kills you, its wether or not the power supply(or fence)is able to suppy enough amps to fry you. Two examples static electricity, theres enough volts to travel thru air, still it doesnt kill you. A spark plug in a car is between 20000-40000 volts, that will hit you, but not kill you since it cant feed the amps to kill you.....

      BigDaddy77 - 2 years ago

@Dougieeeeee120 volts: Is the standard electrical current for most homes. 240 volts for things like dryers and water heaters. Go ahead and stick a fork into a 120v receptacle and see what happens. 6000 volts will definetly light you up

@DougieeeeeeBigDummy77: Go re-read, volts is nothing, it's the amps what do the damage. The fence may have a bazzilion volts but no amps. This is not a household supply, it's an electric fence.

@DougieeeeeeHow is 6K volts imposible?: Ever hear of an transformer? I've worked on equipment that had in part of it's circuit 25K volts.

DEF NOT: 6000 volts.... i work at a temporary power company and we set up power that runs on 480volts and thats well enough to send ya to the morg

      ccrew - 2 years ago

@MechanicalReamwell then ur not too smart: because its the current that kills u, not the voltage.

  • blackjackmcflap

lies: its obviously not 6000 volts, the average american household has about 1/50th of that running through it and it can be enough to send u on your ass

ga: HollywoodLeo said: Not 6,000 volts, nowhere near. : as an electrician who routinely works around >4000 volts there's no way that was anywhere near 6K, he'd be dead. That being said he's still pretty stupid. Lol! As an electrican you should know that volts are harmless as long as the amps are low.

@HollywoodLeothen why don't tasers kill: every time they're used? they have 50,000 volts. I've been hit by 30k with no problems outside the initial shock

@HollywoodLeonice try: someone like you without even a basic understanding of electricity working as an electrician? you're a union puke, aren't you? I'll bet you know if the coffee maker is plugged in, that's it
