I actually attempted to build an RC plane once. They cost hundreds of dollars and take many hours to assemple. I feel this guys pain as he flies his plane into some electrical lines and watches it explode into flames.

    I wouldn't worry about it too much: When Arabs in Dubai are not flying high-end RC planes into power lines, they're drifting around in high-end sports cars and SUVs, lounging around (men only) in high-end luxury hotels, jetsetting to Saudi Arabia and seeking out crafty ways to fund international islamic terrorists.

    eurofighter: This took place in Dubai, sometime June-July 2005. The plane is a CompositeARF Eurofighter. It had a flameout and glided in. Appearently some issues with the by standers that needed to avoided caused the pilot to drop it fast, instead of gliding it further in. It then happened to hit the powerlines, and 2 lines will have the same effect as a cable and ground. Have seen pics afterwards, very little damage to the plane.

    It wouldn't explode: unlcess it was touching the groud and the wire at the same time. Otherwise, punkass birds have magic power that we need to ascertain

      @bigbossxvisigh: it's 3-phase AC (notice the 3 wires), so the voltages in each line are 120 degrees out of phase. At 13Kv and 60Hz that voltages difference is big enough.

      @bigbossxviSteveHamn, if twas 13KV: the cables would have to be insulated, and it would never be a short circut. This lines only carryed voltage between 120v and 400v, because they aint insulated. But still voltage does not mean much, it's the A we care about. Funny thing is that I once crashed my RC plane ino high voltage lines, nothing realy happened exept for the wings leaving the plane and the plane crashing nose first into the forrest :P
