I have high voltage experience: Those were switches with what they call arcing horns, when the switch is thrown they build up tension so they spring open at a high speed so the electrical connection is broke. There is an instance of a larger one, it is the lineman and cablemans handbook, the arc jumped about a 100 feet due to humidity in the air. I have switched up to 115,000 before....it is cool

This is what that is.: This type of arc is called a Jacob's Ladder. This particular one is the largest ever known to occur. It happened at a 500 KV switchyard out west. One of the phase's breakers did not open properly. The arc would have continued until the switchgear melted, but another breaker tripped down the line.

this: is called an electrical arc, it starts close or together and then the things go away from each other but theres so much electricity it still stays....im pretty sure thats what it is

yay, science!: This phenomenon is named "Jacob's ladder," and it is caused because the electricity heats up and ionizes the air, making the ionized air have less resistance, but since the heated air rises, the electricity follows until the resistance is too much for the voltage, and it breaks. No idea why the wire burned off and fell down like that, though...

what this is: where you see the arms open up there is supposed to be a load break on the end of these switch arms but obviously these are not functioning properly. don't play with electricity!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
