One Of The Greatest Speeches Ever Made

In a 70 year old comedy, Charlie Chaplin plays the role of a poor Jewish barber mistaken for Adolph Hitler. This is a speech Charlie gives at the end of the movie that seems like it fits pretty well with the events of the world today.

What makes me sad is that the speech is delivered by an actor playing a role and not a politician or leader with the power to enact change.

His perspective of human kind is very negative. I feel sorry for his character and for people who see humanity as he does.

I can see why people say this is inspirational but it's truly inaccurate. The "system" is not to blame nor any organization as they are all made up of people. We are not good in our nature which is contradictory to this message. "...and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil." There is only one truth and one way and that is Jesus Christ, not by force but by choice. Even He said "no man is good" He is the light that we all long for.

@true2012I wonder what it is like, to be so clouded by religion that life's most complicated problems, the world's most complicated issues, can be boiled down so simply and dismissed without any real thought besides "Jesus is the answer", and then pompously proclaim your ignorance as you sit upon your pedestal, blind, and have learned nothing.

The words spoken are true, but they are just words. Do we, and by we I mean EVERYBODY, have the courage to do what is needed to make those words real?

to all of you saying that this bad timing or that it is impossible, you obviously have no vision, We live in a violent and cruel time but this video is not saying that we need a utopia, but instead says we need to look deeper into each other, it is not our duty to kill a dictator but instead unite and turn the country from a dictatorship to a brotherhood, its about seeing the good in us all, we are equals with unimaginable potential to do great

Bad timing man. There is nothing we can do to reverse whats already been done. They call it history for a reason. Though, if history repeats itself, the people of this world will still stand up for what they believe in again and again for better or worse, things will change. I'm certain of that much. Greed may consume many counties, as long as there is no war between them, greed will always stay. The real problem, people can never stay fully satisfied.

      beatlesman7 - 5 months ago

@Jenna-Vandendaele-910I don't think it is bad timing at all. I agree that there is nothing we can do to reverse the past, but if we learn from the past, then we won't make the same mistakes going forward. I think that this speech is as much as a call to change the future as it is to reflect on the past.

Wow...I really believe this speech. Though with some people here they think that it's all gibberish, not knowing of the truth and meaning of this very speech that was spoken. It teaches us to open our eyes, see the wrong we have done, and we must find a way to undo what we have done. It made us remember who we once were, and who we should be now. He's right. Greed and Anger has corrupted not only americans, but everyone else too. Thumbs down on this comment all you want, what will that make you

That's great and all...very inspiring...but that's what is known as a "Eutopian Society". It cannot exist however nice it sounds. The majority of people are followers and always look for others to lead. And that's when the dictators and presidents come in to take advantage. Its a horrible cycle. But a continuous one none-the-less. The best we can do is keep our leaders in check and do what is right. And sometimes, just sometimes...doing what is "right" isn't always the right thing to do...

    • ThatBoyBoogie

      ThatBoyBoogie - 6 months ago

@Big_ToddlerA "Utopian" society might be out of reach. He isn't preaching toward a group of people. He is saying that if YOU (me, everyone as an individual) betters themselves than our society by default will become great. Build a better man, every man.

.....And all these words from the Little Tramp that was in fact a Communist himself, preaching that our soldiers should have a mind of their own and "choose" to disobey and to disrupt. How wrong is that! Greatest speech ever given? I don't think so!

    • grendelpaul

      grendelpaul - 6 months ago

@Jd-Pinkerton-445don't be an idiot, do research before you shout out. Chaplin was no communist. even if he was a communist. try to remember that prior to our American fear of communism starting after WW2 in the form we called BAD. There were plenty of communists living here and all over the world. it was nothing we had a problem with until we needed to point it out as against capitalism. then we had a problem with it. same as here communism can be abused. if you think Americans are not being abused the same way under th

    • hueyefnlewis

      hueyefnlewis - 6 months ago

@Jd-Pinkerton-445yeah dumbass Chaplin was most definitely not a communist. The government at that time framed him to be a commi but he later proved that he wasn't. So I think you should just stfu.

The greedy corporate money bags are just a little faster on their feet and they are chasing what everyone wants. To buy more stuff so they are seen as unique/admired/loved. It how we catagorize humans in visual and texting world. The 1 percenters who pierce their bodies/tattoo/dress sexy etc. just as quickly ( as the corporate heads grieve the 1 percenters) will grieve those who wear mullets, crocs and socks, moustaches because they are not cool and people react as if they were actual threats. Cool is a in

@tunk31please read a book. "Coolness" is not what's important to humanity, or the world itself, or how it operates. That would be money and politics. Which is exactly what this video mentions in fewer words. Obviously you don't pay much attention to either.

    • Jenna-Vandendaele-910

      Jenna-Vandendaele-910 - 6 months ago

@Jenna-Vandendaele-910By the way all you posting about percentages, sorry but if you really believe the world's mess is based off of this fake percentage of people who have different opinions that you, you must be retarded. You can't base a percentage off of what one person may or may have not said, yet alone 99% of people. Have you met 99% of the world? I don't think so.
