Actually,: this is dead easy...blunt blade. They will tell you it is sharp, maybe even have a small sharp section to 'prove' it will cut paper etc, but this is a simple martial arts magic trick.

This is simple: I've tested it myself... he probably got the sword out of the Bud K magazine, they arrive fairly dull, not enough to cut the skin (meant for show only) but they are very good at cutting soft objects. Watermelons have a hard and firm on the outside, and are easily cut on the inside. The skin is soft, and can be stretched into almost any shape. I did a test like this (just seperately), You cut through a watermelon easily with enough force, but the same amount of force can't cut the skin...
