An All Nippon Airways plane landed this morning without its nose gear at Kochi Airport in southern Japan. Does this happen very often? What would happen if one of the rear wheels didnt descend?

this is why I won't fly....my luck I'd end up in a plane piloted by a pilot that loses control

@fresheggrollActually...: They are spraying the Fire retardant at the fuselage where the aircraft dragged to help dissipate the heat generated by the friction, and to PREVENT the chance of fire. its safety first. Moron.

I'd love to know what the pilot told his passengers before he did this.: "Um, I'm sorry to inform everyone that we actually don't have completely functioning landing gear today, I know, I know, damn budget cuts. But if you'd please return to your seats and prepare for me to attempt to land without nose gear that would be stellar. Hang on tight! *laughs* No but seriously."

Hehe: They figured they could save money by leaving out the nose gear, the only thing they have to do is give a new paint job on the bottom of the nose.

@FaderzIt's not the planes, moron....: it's the shitty maintenance practices. Don't comment on what you know nothing about.

@FaderzFolius: Well actually it was bults being of bad quality in this bombardier plane (did you even know it was a bombardier plane?)

@FaderzWell Folius: I do know that those pilots got skill landing that plane. Could've been alot worse.

    • Remog

      Remog - 3 years ago

@FaderzYep: I believe they were Bombardiers - they had a defect in their landing gear assemblies that caused this.

    • VetteDgood

      VetteDgood - 2 years ago

@CollegefundsUmm...: Retract:to draw back or in, to draw or pull back, to recant or disavow something...Pretty sure they had it correct here...They were asking what would happen if what of the rear landing gear did not engage or "decend"...Dumbass~

answer to his question..: if the rear wheels don't descend, the fire crews put foam over the runway and the plane slides on that

Textbook!: Pilots train for this. Notice how he keeps the nose up as long as possible, lessening the potential for disaster and damage...
