Is there anything that WD-40 and a lighter can't fix? If there exists such a thing, just torch it all with your mini flamethrower. Problem solved.

Like to see someone try that with WD-40. Starting fluid is the most popular way to do it

was probably letting some air out as to not over inflate, ether (starting fluid) does it even better but not too much cause its its extremely explosive

My favorite part was where break lost the video.

  • woodienk

could have been letting air out to increase traction for "crawling"

why did he let the air out after the guy fixed it,,and what was the stuff he sprayed around the tire.,, this vid is pretty much a waste not knowing those two things...

    • Falanx

      Falanx - a year ago

@wilmacIf you knew anything about cars you wold know the answer to both.

    • groovyisback

      groovyisback - a year ago

@wilmacWhen you use that trick to set the bead the explosion expands the tire so rapidly it forces it onto the rim's edge. Now after an explosion the air is used up and will want to contract, so if he didn't let the air back into the tire (I know it looked like he was deflating it) the contraction would have sucked the tire off the rim again. Also break got it wrong, it wasn't WD-40, it's not flammable enough. it was probably starter fluid or break fluid.

@wilmacEver tried setting brake fluid on fire? Definitely not combustible enough. It burns slowly and doesn't have a high flash rate. Think if brake fluid would leak from your master cylinder onto your exhaust. See why it's a bad idea? It would almost have to be starting fluid or carb cleaner.

@wilmacHe probably meant brake cleaner though I don't know why mudders would travel with that. Starting fluid makes more sense.

we do this with a very SMALL SMALL amount of ether on tractor tires. we tried it on a quad tire once and it blew the tire to shreds...obviously wd-40 is probably more on hand that ether tho

    • OldNumber7

      OldNumber7 - 3 years ago

starter fluid or (ether) is the best way to do this trick. i worked as a mechanic for several years and have done this trick numerous times.

  • Santafebadger

    Santafebadger - 3 years ago

This does work, but it's usually done with ether starting fluid. Works best on big tires with a lot of inside volume, like a backhoe tire. If you use to much, it can pop completely over the rim, though. Handy if you're stranded with a small compressor and no way to reseat a large tire...
