Insane Landing In Honduras

Mark Tegucigalpa Honduras down as a place I will never visit. I can barely stomach a normal landing let alone this.

well, that's the passion of it, nothing insane, i'll tell you, st. maarteen is a insane landing, over the people at the beach, anyways, that's an old video, i guess it was taken between 1997 and 2000, after 2000 the runway was enlarged, the trees are gone, and they usually land by the other way now, tegucigalpa is really cool you guys should come....XD

I don't think the passengers would know how close they are to the ground, so to them it would be a normal landing, I think.

Bang on: That was a textbook landing into a valley runway, with a crosswind that required the pilot to crab the plane until touchdown to maintain alignment with the runway. Perfect. If he'd done anything _else_, I wouldn't land in Honduras.

@jaxter88Apart from the fact it was an autopilot landing... Pilots are needed for one thing and one thing only, to abort a take off when necessary...

My neighbour is a pilot: and he says that more than 90% of the landings are done by automatic pilot. Pilots are heroes, but don't praise them too much..

sick: but the runway in lebanon has like a mini curve in it that the plane needs to like turn on while landing. it's wack.

Tegucigulpa retirement flight: If you want to see what it looks like from the cockpit here is my retirement flight into TGU. Just touch Honduras and select center video with cockpit window view.

    • bubbers44

      bubbers44 - 4 years ago

@bubbers44TGU retirement landing: You have to go back to the previous video to press Honduras and press center picture to get my final landing at TGU. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

The pilot came in hot and flared right before touchdown...: BFD

    • imb4u2

      imb4u2 - 4 years ago

@sneakygreenalienlanding: Are you a pilot? It's impossible to judge a landing in a spot like that without firsthand experience AT THAT STRIP. There was also a crosswind for which the pilot had to compensate and remember--- it's not easy to land 80tonnes of airplane in a runway that's in a hollow. By the way iI AM a pilot and rewspect the job that pilot did

    • bubbers44

      bubbers44 - 4 years ago

@sneakygreenalienLanding speed: Been in there hundreds of times and the deck angle looked perfect for a normal 135 knot landing speed typical for a two hour flight from MIA. Done it hundreds of times. He touched down a bit early but at that airport that helps at the other end with the 70 ft cliff.

Can you image: if this was an IFR approach?

    • Waterhazard

      Waterhazard - 2 years ago

@scottphysyes of course: what is IFR?

    • mike5735

      mike5735 - 2 years ago

@scottphysIFR: (Instrument Flight Rules) approach. It's when pilots only use their instruments to land. Such as in fog or a bad sorm.

    • Collegefunds

      Collegefunds - 2 years ago

@scottphysProbably a circle to land procedure: but if he did this in the U.S. he would be in trouble, He landed before the threshold on the area that's only aloud for taxi, take-off, and roll-out (Ithink?)

    • jbucatcher31

      jbucatcher31 - 4 years ago

@scottphysThey can't land IFR there: They have to divert if the conditions aren't clear enough. During the dry season, everyone burns the dead brush to clear areas for planting. Since the city is surrounded by mountains, the smoke hangs in the air and they have to cancel flights. The approach isn't the worst part though. At the other end of the runway, there's a 150-200 foot dropoff then the highway. A fully fueled C-130 crashed a few years ago and scorched everything in it's path.
