In many urban areas the engines are open cab (like a convertible but without a covertible top. The officer riding shotgun is responsible for standing up and looking both ways at an intersection like that just to prevent this from happening. It's the most common source of firefighter injuries. When driving with a siren on you cannot hear another siren. Been there, done that, got the scars. Used to be all fire vehicles in NY and Boston were open cab. Don't know if they still are.

@Writerwow open cabs haven't been made since the 80s, those guys would all been fucked if they didn't have enclosed cabs like, there very few open cabs left around, there dangerous.

Even emergency vehicles have to make sure the way is clear before proceeding through a red light.

I used to drive ambulances, and it was scary knowing there were other emergency vehicles driving through red lights in the same area with different routes in mind. It's really a worst case scenario when this happens because you know you're going to lay there waiting for help for a long time since you WERE the help.

@mosquitobaitYou don't just drive through a red light dipshit, youre supposed to check if anyone else is doing it then you proceed.

That one dude looked like he was pointing as if "Hey, there's another one coming!" and then when they crash he's all "Ah, screw these idiots, I have to get to work."

Horrible description on this crash. "For some reason they are going in differetn directions." Probably because they were COMING from different directions. This happened in St. Louis and all have been released from the hospital.

@unclesam76this is true... they were both responding to the same call... which ended up being a false alarm... these are some good guys workin in the fire department in st. louis.... it's been a tough year for everyone, fire and the police department.

So, when you are a 911 response unit, do you call 911 after an incident like this?
