I saw the creator of the Second Chance vest during a demo using a .44 mag with black talon ammo. He used a phone book to absorb the shock. Police Officers wear the shock plate in the carrier. This dummy apparently had no clue what he was in for.

Extremely dangerous and stupid. The most dangerous shot is a contact shot since the round is at maximum velocity and the super-heated gas from the powder detonating is burning, melting and overall weakening the ballistic material at the same time the round is pushing through. If he hadn't used a second ballistic panel over the same area, he could have easily had a penetration with a 10mm and killed hilmself. The luckiest moment of his life and he doesn't know it.
