This is pretty cool footage of a submarine taking aim and destroying a battleship. The odds that this may actually be a battleship after me referring to it as one are now zero. Please see the comments section for the actual name, type, manufacturer, length, beam, draft, speed, and displacement.

    Anyone want to do this?: Go buy Silent Hunter 3, closest thing you can get without actually being in a Submarine.(It looks almost exactly the same too)

    target practice: they don't really destroy the boat, its only target practice. the ship is probably 20 or 30 years old and the sailors on the sub need target practice. its pretty cool how they blow up the ship. the torpedo doesn't hit it directly. the torpedo explodes a little bit underneth the boat and creates a bubble of gas and bounces the ship in half. the gas and everthing is just the gas hitting the surface.

      @ben465What?: Do you think they are going to haul the VERY DESTROYED ship from the bottom and glue it back together? Target practice, yes. The ship is however very much destroyed. Most Navies do this regularly with older ships to give the weapons guys practice and to get rid of old ships.

    For the LAST time!: this IS the NORWEGIAN friggate KNM Stavanger, A Oslo Class Friggate... the torpedo being fired IS a german made DM2A3 heavyweight dual purpouse Torpedo(packing a whopping amount of HBX-II[exact amount classified]) And the Submarine firing the torpedo IS the KNM(HNOMSS if u will) Utstein, a Ula class KSS diesel-electric sub. the torpedo was fired from Tube 2, wich still has the number of the fatal shot scarred in the hatch. I currently work on this particular submarine.. and the fotage

    It is NOT a swedish submarine.: It aint, the periscope is not any modern swedish made submarine. And the placement of the sonar crew is different. The swedish sub's are more crowded, and hold only 30 people (max ammount). They use sterling engines (made in Kockum), and our latest submarine was never made (A26).

    Definately not HNoMS Stavanger: To those claming this is the sinking of the KNM Stavanger (HNoMS Stavanger - F303), I have to dissapoint you. Thou the ship resembles the Stavanger, it's not it. I served on the Stavanger's sister ship the KNM Bergen (F301), so it didn't take long to see that certain key features on the ship seen on the video was quite different... Anyway, For you who said it was the KNM Oslo (F300), really need to get your facts right :-P The Oslo also took a plunge to the bottom of t
