Should have heated the mold to get rid of any residual moisture. They flash boiled any condensation on the mold and nearly got 3rd degree burns.

hey asshead! instead of blowing the extinguisher on the table, how about you remove the red-hot glowing metal thing from it. I don't think this accident is why they fail anything. The problem lies much deeper.

@Pyrobryanyour post ironically makes absolutely no sense.

why does he keep using the Co2 extinguisher? like it will cool the thing down? he really is a chemistry hero, huh?

    • Karsaire

      Karsaire - 2 years ago

@AllstarSimonOr you could know what you're speaking about and realize that CO2 gas is stored at something like -60 degrees F.

    • onlynameleft

      onlynameleft - 2 years ago

@AllstarSimonYa cause the extinguisher feels really cold when you touch it.

    • ignoramos

      ignoramos - 2 years ago

@AllstarSimonIt's a lot more than just CO2 in there.

    • Karsaire

      Karsaire - 2 years ago

@AllstarSimonactually in a CO2 extinguisher it really is only CO2. In a regular extinguisher yes there's a lot of stuff, but for chemistry lab's only CO2 is used because it's not very volatile

    • uBlow

      uBlow - 2 years ago

@AllstarSimonNo, CO2 is not stored at -60'F. It is stored as a liquid at room temp. It seems you are the dumb one.

    • aur3ll

      aur3ll - 2 years ago

@AllstarSimonmaybe it absorb the heat when the gaz dilate or its the stuff in the extinguisher that prevent the fire from reaching oxygen

    • hojemwod

      hojemwod - 4 months ago

@AllstarSimonWhen the CO2 pressure is released the temperature drops, so it will actually be cold, and it will cool down the crucible(the thing the metal is melted in). Thats how it works. Sorry.

Humidity in the mold... I work in an aluminium first transformation plan, nasty when your test roads have a slight humidity on them

@Fid3Actually its just an Air pocket. I took a Metallurgy class. And the main study was on the fusion and smelting of metals.

    • InstructionalVid

@Fid3yeah an air pocket due to humidity, moisture that expanded. it should be hotter than 950 if it was molten.

Those idiots let the kiluminator get to hot and when he pored the mixture in there was a liquid formation inside the metal causing the miniture explosion.

    • Tanqueray

      Tanqueray - 2 years ago

@stusaj5.....sounds like you have NO idea what you are talking about. Of course there's LIQUID formation. That's EXACTLY what they were doing. MELTING the aluminum (melting point of about 650 C. They were pouring it too fast so the fumes were getting trapped into bubbles as new aluminum was being poured. All that said, you are an idiot.
