Amazing..it only took 7 hours to charge my phone under a 100 watt bulb. I would have used less energy had I just used the darn charger...

Argh!: Roughly 5V isn't good enough, aim for about 7.5V (an extra 2 cells) and use a Voltage Regulator (A78L05). And more importantly, STOP TESTING POTENTIAL. Test the voltage under load.

@bushangyour missing: a Charge Controller. The device that makes sure the PV Solar array doesn't overcharge & destroy your $80 cell phone, laptop or MPS player battery. The reason the solar landscaping lights go to crap so fast is because this charge controller is also missing from the landscape lights. This IS a good cheap alternative, you'd naver get this done this cheap even if you add the $20 for the charge control component. mike@backuppower

@bushangSwenDaddy: Expensive electronic gadgets like phones and especially laptops come with their own charge controller. Why do you think you can leave it plugged in over-night? Dumbass.

@eugheySome people like me: have items like mp3 players that can only be charged in a USB port. This is great for vacationing where they don't have easily accessable computers.
