the drawback of the harrier: the drawback of the harriers design is caused by the controls required to change flight modes its kind of like helmet fire with the F-18 hornets helmet targeting system, sometimes the pilot will be overwhelmed with all the procedures that need to be followed... and as mhale71 says it could have been a flameout... physics agrees with it

try and find out what happened before u start sayin stuff: u lot dnt know wot ya talkin about it was at lowerstoft airshow i was there the engine stalled when coming in to hover and the pilot had a broken led and was picked up by the life guard and air lifted to hospital

how this really happened: the harriers exhaust is hot right? gets blown downward when its hovering... hover for long enough and hot air will get back to the engines intake and cause a flameout... happened to a lot of the earlier harriers, that and the fact they can only hover for 90 seconds before the engine overheats.

how this happens: This happens with Choppers a lot , they hover in the same spot to long and it acutally cuts a hole in the air that supports them and they fall out of the sky.

This is Lowestoft, England: The Pilot didnt do much swimming after that cos he landed on top of the Harrier and broke his leg!! Great Airshow tho
