  @HimminyIt's actually a law. (in some states) Building code requires that their be two exists from any room of dwelling in a house. Meaning, if that house was to be built and listed for sale as a 4 bedroom house, it would have to be built to code. Leaving what you see in this video, a secondary exist in case of fire from a basement room. Looks like it really came in handy here.
